BORINGS FOR BRIDGE
OPERATIONS DELAYED
WEATHER AND CURRENTS
INTERFER
Strong currents and. bad weather arc interferring with boring work on tho Waitemata bed for the preliminary harbour bridge investigations, and the contractors have completed only two of the thirteen proposed bores.' Mr. E. A. Gibson, of the Public Works Department, is directing the work. Men were at work on the third bore to-dav. ■
Buoys were placed on the Shoal Bay end of the survey line from Beaumont Street this morning. Silt is encountered about 100 ft deep in places. This is the accumulation of years in the backwater formed by the outgoing tide. Actual boring operations take, only a few hours, but it is essential that the moorings of the barge should be accurate, and. this work involves a lengthy process. The work was not completed yesterday until nearly midnight, but the contractor states that providing weather is fa vourable two bores a day can be made. ■It is expected to have all bores completed by Christmas.
