ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Jill-. E. Morton, Mayor, presided at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council held last night. Water Supply.—lt was decided to grant the Auckland City Council a renewal for five years of the present terms of lOd per 1000 gallons of water supplied to Westfield, with a minimum supply ot Ij,ooo,(ah.>. Mr. W. C. Hill, chairman of the Water Committee, reported that the City Council consumed 21,664,000 gallons last year at Westfield. The town clerk stated that the revenue derived from this source was about £500 a year. At one time it was £1600. That was before water was obtainable from Otaliuliu. The present term expires, in May, 1931. Outfall Tank Attendant.—Five applications were received for the above position and to repair water taps. Mr. J. Marshall was appointed to the former at a salary of 50/ per vweek, and the turncock is to repair the taps. Municipal Chambers.—ln connection with the proposed loan of £100,000 for streets, etc., it was decided to place before the ratepayers a proposal to erect municipal buildings on the quarry site at the junction of Queen and Trafalgar Streets, the amount of the loan to be decided at a later meeting. Water for Schools. —The Onehunga and Te Papapa school committees are to be allowed water free of charge next year, up to the present average consumption. Offer Accepted—Messrs. Williams and Gossell accepted the councils price of £130 for the crusher, elevator, and wincu at Mount Smart. Proposed Basin Road.—A report from the clerk of works on the proposed basin road, recommending that design drawn up by the late Mr. H. H. Metcalfe, be adopted, at an estimated cost of was read and received. _ Council Chamber—A committee was set up to consider the question of renovating the council chamber. Bathing Sheds. —Tne attendant at the bathing sheds is to report the names of any offenders. A by-law is to be drafted specifying that two-piece bathing suits must be worn on the beach by bathers over twelve years of age, and that a notice board be erected to that effect. Transport. —The Hon. W. A. \ eitcli. Minister of Transport, asked the council for any suggestions they wished to make with regard to the motor vehicles regulations, and stated that it is proposed to call a conference of local bodies and others interested to review the regulations and suggestions received. Mr. F. S. Morton reported that he was resigning as the council's representative on the Transport Board this week. It was decided to record a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Morton for his services on that board, and to wish him bon voyage and a safe return home.
