LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT EDEN. The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. In the absence of the Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter), the chair was occupied by the deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. Bry den), there being a!*o prc-sent Messrs. Lange, Wool ley, Rendeil, Chappell, Xagle, Mills, Melville and Newcombe. Road Surfacing.—The -works committee reported that when the road works already authorised had 'been completed, the permanent resurfacing of St. Alban s Avenue, East Avenue and Oaklands Road would be put in hand. Street Lighting.—Recognising the urgent need for lighting the lane connecting Marsden Avenue and Kensington Avenue, it was decided to erect a street lami> there immediately. School Jubilee.—ln addition to donating £5 5/ to the jubilee celebrations of the Mount Eden school, to be held on Saturday in the school grounds, the council decided to ask the Auckland Power Board to lay the leads for lighting to the grounds free of charge. Street Collections.—The council adopted the finance committee's recommendation that each application for permission to hold street collections be considered on its merits. Cheap Shelters.—A request from the Mount Eden Bowling Club that the council should erect two or three cheap shelters adjoining the new green at Nicholsou Park was declined.
