FIFTY YEARS AGO.

THE SHIP FERNGLEN. Fifty years ago the ship Fernglen arrived at Auckland under the charge of the late Captain William Frater. One of the passengers, Mr. William Fletcher, of Edendale, kept a diary of the voyage, which states: "On Tuesday, November 25, 1879, the pilot took charge of the Fernglen, and we arrived at the anchorage in Auckland Harbour at 25 minutes to 2 o'clock. The vessel came alongside the wharf on the 28th." Mr. Fletcher stated that Captain Bubb, who succeeded Captain Frater in charge of the Fernglen, made a second voyage to New Zealand. On the return trip the ship was lost with all hands on the Golden Horn, off the Californian coast.
