ROTORUA NOTES.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Thompson, of Epsom, have returned to Auckland from a motor tour of the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua districts. Mr. "and Mrs. George Anyon. of Wellington, who have staying at Grande Vue while in Rotorua, leave at the end of the week for Auckland and the Bay of Islands. Miss Joy Gilbertson, Haupapa Street, has returned from Tongariro National Park, Wanganui £-nd Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Oakes and their son, of Toko Street, have returned from' a three months"' holiday to Sydney and Melbourne. Mrs. Alex. R. Jackson, of Remuera, is the guest of Mrs. Walter Steele, Euera Street. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Mellsop, of Brent's Bathgate House, are visiting Auckland, and are guests at Cargen. Mrs. W. D. Young, Pukaki Street, has returned from a holiday spenl in Auckland, wheve she was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Nixon, Ponsonby.

An enjoyable progressive bridge party was given by Miss Cora Moore, at the residence of Mrs. Russell Gardner, Malfroy Eoad, in honour of Miss Tui Giesen, who is to be married shortly. Bowls of mauve pansies and Iceland poppies made attractive decorations. The prizes were won by Miss Doria Griffith first, Miss Violet Steele the booby, Miss Tui Giesen the sealed number. After supper, Miss Giesen was presented with a pretty blue basket containing many beautiful handkerchiefs, the gifts of the guests, with all good wishes for her future. Miss Giesen, in a happy little speech, expressed her thanks for the delightful evening and gifts. Those present were: Miss Cora Moore, who wore a frock of cydaman georgette, silver beaded; Mrs. Russell Gardner, mauve lame,- Miss Tui Giesen, floral and green crepe de chine; Airs. C. Hitchcock, Mrs. L. J. Brooker, Miss Jean Giesen, Miss D. Griffith, Miss M Coonev, Miss V. St. Clair, Miss G. Booth, Miss V. Steele, Miss V. Holland, Miss N. Holland, Miss M. McKenzie," Miss 0. Dawson, Miss E. Campbell. On Tuesdav afternoon, at St. Luke's Parish Hall, the Rotorua Women's Club held their monthly social afternoon. The lounge was gay with bowls of roses, Iceland" poppies and copper beech. The president, Mrs. N. M. Keane, presided, and after the report and minutes of the last quarterly meeting had been read, introduced Mrs. W. H. Speer, who gave an interesting and descriptive account of her recent trip round the world, and spoke chiefly of the beauty and life of Budapest, where she spent some time when attending the Y.W.C.A. Conference, which was held there last year. Among those present were: Mesdames N. M. Keane, W. H. Speer, W. L. Richards, J. Campnv, A. Munro, A. Steele, W. Steele, A. R. Jackson (Rehmera), W. T. Winslade, Hodgson, Benner, J. St. Clair, Cohnle, Christopher, W. A. Thomsen, Holmes, Thompson (Monrea), H. H. Davis, Farren, S. Hale, Stewart, Louden, Brown, Hogan, H. P. Ford, Larnach, Plummer, E. Robertson, Lasenby. Jackson (Auckland), Orsler, Misses A. French, M; Mactier, St. Clair, Whitburn. The queen carnival and bazaar in aid of St. Michael's Church, Rotcrua, concluded on Saturday evening, when, despite the very unsettled weather, good business resulted. Miss Ana Hato was the successful candidate for the queen contest, and when the result was announced the Maori girls gave a wonderful haka and then the poi dance. The stallholders were as follows: Mrs. Saratv; Mrs. Goodyer, Mrs. McCarthy, Misses Boyes, the country stall, ice cream and 'tea rooms; Mrs. PalJister and helpers, the Maori stall; Mrs. Ellis, Mrs. Clubb and the Misses Ellis, the visitors ctallj Miss E. Vaughan, Mrs. P. Munro, Mrs. Walker, Miss Glass, the town stall.
