CRICKET.
N.Z. COUNCIL REPORT.
CRITICAL YEAR AHEAD.
The annual report, of the New Zealand Cricket Council for the season 1928-29 has befen issued. In addition to details of the most important events of last season, compiled in the usual form for handy reference, and an appreciation of the late Mr. J. F. Peake's services to the administrative side of the game, the report indicates clearly that the forthcoming season will be a critical one,for New Zealand in the matter of participation in international cricket. Through the services of Earl Jellicoe at the Imperial Conference, Mr. H. D. Swan in English cricket circles, and Mr. T. H. Howard in Australia, the council had been helped over difficulties in the matter of the forthcoming tour of an M.C.C. team and other international arrangements. On the success of this tour will depend the future financial position of the council, and, J consequently, the ability of the council, to send, a team to England in-1932. Already the council has disbursed, by arrangeinents for bank overdraft, a sum of £2583 for the fares of the M.C.C. team, but arrangements have been made for guarantees to cover the cost of the trip up to £5300. A deficit is not anticipated, but the hopes of the council for the future centre in the possibility of the tour supplying a substantial profit to form the nucleus of a fund for later international projects.
