TOWN HALL ENTERTAINMENTS

LIQUOR TO BE BANNED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The City Council, at a special meeting to-day, unanimously agreed that an amendment be passed to the Wellington City by-laws making it an offence for intoxicating liquor to be brought into the Town Hall or any hall or building under the jurisdiction of the Wellington City Council without the permission of the town clerk. There was little discussion on the point, the ten councillors present being in accord that steps should be taken to exercise some check on the conduct of dances and entertainments held in the Town Hall or the concert chamber as far as the consumption of liquor is concerned.
