TWO LOANS PROPOSED.

The Tauranga County Council yesterday decided to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to raise a loan of £7900 for improving the main highway and various by-roads in the Te Puke riding, also for sanction to borrow £2400 for the construction of the Ruahihi and Ngamuawahine Bridges on the Tauranga-Matamata main highway.

The estimated cost of these two bridges is £7200 and the Main Highways Board will provide £2 for £1. The clerk was authorised to take eteps for raising a, loan under the bridges fund of £250 for the Pongakawa Bridge. The council agreed to a'dvise settlers on Reid's Road, Papamoa, that, provided the To Puke Riding loan is sanctioned, the proposal to metal Reid's Road will receive favourable consideration. The council accepted tenders of J. S. MeKcnzie for crushing metal and M. R. Stewart for carting metal for the Tau-ranga-Te Puke main highway.
