WEDNESDAY EVENING RACES,
MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB
The Wednesday evening cycle events, which proved very popular last summer, were recommenced at the Domain last evening. In future rnces will be held every Wednesday evening. The Manukau Amateur Cycling Club held a two miles handicap. A field of 22 riders started in the race, which resulted in a close and exciting .finish, the placed men crossing the line almost together. J. FT. Wade, scratch, with the assistance of H. R. Dwight, COyds, made a great effort to get the field at two laps to go. They closed up with the leaders just as the straight was entered, but could not get past. The successful riders were: E. A. Cleaver, 150 yds. 1; G. J. Whitehouse, 170 yds, 2; A. W. Pinker, 120 yds, 3. Time, 5.2. The club will conduct a three miles handicap ! next week.
THE AUCKLAND CLUB.
The Auckland Cycle Club held a two miles handicap. A field of 15 competed, A. fast pace was maintained by the middle •markers, who bunched' early. At the bell Yule had the lead, which he held until the straight was entered, when Mathieson came with a well-timed sprint and accounted for first place by a length. Fletcher and Yule being separated by inches only. Tne placed riders were: K. J. Mathie=ion. 100 yds, 1; D. Fletcher, 150 yds, 2; C. T. Yule, 150 yds, 3. Time, 5.6 1-5. The club will decide a three miles handicap next Wednesday.
