BUILT WITHOUT PERMIT.
PACKING CASES USED. WAITING FOR A LOAN. A man named E. .T. Thomas pleaded guilty before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day to a breach of the building bylaws by having erected a four-roomed building on a leasehold section of nine acres at Boundary Road. Avondale, without first getting a permit, and also with having used wood from packing eases in the construction of the building. Mr. Mackay, representing the City Opuncil, said that Thomas, his partner Cooper, the wife of the latter, and a young man lived in the house. The position, be understood, was that . Mr. Thomas was waiting for a Government loan. Defendant said he did not know that a building permit was necessary in agricultural places. He put up the place for a shed, but the loan did not arrive be used it to live in. Mr. Mackay suggested that defendant might apply to the City Council for a permit to use the building as a residence until the loan was available. Defendant was convicted of having erected a building without a permit, and ordered to pay costs.
