RIFLE SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB. The Auckland City Defence Rifle Club opened the series for Mr. J. S. Milne's trophy with a shoot at SOOyds and 900 yds on Saturday, there being another line attendance. A drifting left wind caused a lot of trouble. Many of the changes did not show on the flags and the scoring, as a consequence, was lower than usual. R. C. Russell, who is showing flne form, was top off the rifle by five points, with an excellent 93. ■ Spoons were won by R. C. Russell, W. H. Thompson and X. D. Chiswell, and trophy points by Russell, Thompson and Sommerville iu the ratio of 3, 2 and 1. Totals off the rifles were:—R. C. Russell, 47 at 800 yds, 46 at 900 yds, total 93; W. H. AKARANA RIFLE CLUB. The final shoot of "the Auckland Club' 3 first trophy series was completed over the ranges of 800 and 900 yards at Penrose for trophies presented by Mr. F. Kearsley and Sir P. Lang. A left wind caused the marksmen considerable trouble. However, some good shooting was recorded. Silver spoons were won by D. Calder and F. Ellett. Trophy points were awarded to the three top men in each section. The following won trophy points during the series : D. Calder 11, J. R. Draffin 5, F. Atkinson 4, A. E. Hughes 2, G. Ashley 1, A. G. The club will shoot over the ranges of 500 and 600 yards on Saturday nest.
PAEROA MINIATURE CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, Friday. Despite wet weather there was a good attendance of members to fire the second and concluding shoot of the Paeroa Miniature Rifle Club's two-night handicap. Although no possibles were registered, the high standard of the shooting was well maintained. The conditions for each night Were ten shots and one sighter, with a handicap—the limit for the two nights being 200. In the original shoot the three placed members were the only ones-to reach the limit, and shot off with the usual reduction in their handicaps to decide the final places. In the first shoot off E. Mead was eliminated, with a total of 97, leaving M. Charlesworth and R. W. Roberts, who both still reached the 100 limit, to decide first and second place, in the next shoot off. The result was a deserving win for M. Charlesworth, with R. W. Roberts second and E. Mead third. The scores were as follow: B. Mead, 99, handicap 3, total 100, first night 100, grand total 200; M. In the first shoot off the scores were: R. W. Roberts, 98, 2, 100; M. Charlesworth, OS, 2, 100; E. Mead, 90, 1, 97. The final shoot off resulted: M. Charlesworth, 99, 2, 100; R. W. Roberts, 97, 2, 99. At the conclusion of the night's shooting, Mr. F. C. Hubbard, presented the prizes to the winners. He explained that the miniature club had been formed with the idea of providing shooting for those 'who were not able to join in the shooting of the .303 Club on the big range, and also to keep the members of that club in form for the coming season. The success achieved had be:™', far beyohd all expectations, Many of the miniature club members had already joined the .303 Club, and there were hopes of still more. For next season the club would have to fall in line with the other miniature clubs in the Dominion and use the smaller threeeighths inch bull. As regards the shooting, a great improvement had been shown all along from the beginning, and more especially in the junior members, some of whom had shot exceptionally well and won trophies.
