INVERCARGILL, this day,
The Carriers Arms Hotel at Riverton, an old, two-storeyed wooden building, was destroyed by lire about 2.30 this morning. Sirs. Trembath, wife of the licensee, and her infant were trapped and burnt to death. The licensee, Mr. William Trembath, who was formerly well known as a professional runner, and also the boarders escaped. Nothing was saved except a few sporting trophies.
