FRESH GUT FLOWERS.
SOLD AFTER 6 P.M.
SHOPKEEPERS COX VICTED
A . dozen shopkeepers were prosecuted by the inspector of factories, at the Police Court this morning, on charges of stilling fresh cut llowers after 0 p.m. Mr. Munro, who represented most of the defendants, said that in the city, Newmarket and Mount Eden districts fruiterers were not allowed to sell flowers after 6 o'clock. This regulation, which was only gazetted on April 4 last, was the result of a .petition of florists. Defendants instructed him to say that they had no knowledge of the existence of such regulation.
The, inspector pointed out that when the regulation was gazetted some publicity was given it in the newspapers, so that defendants must have known. Florists felt the position rather keenly.
As. .these were, the first prosecutions, Mr, F. K. Hunt, S.M.; convicted and ordered defendants to pay the costs.
