Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—To-day at our "weekly Wcstfield fat stock market ox beef came forward in average numbers, the quality being good. Competition was steady, and last week's values for light weight cattle improved. Heavy weight cattle were inclined to be easier of sale. Cow and heifer beef came forward in lesser numbers, for which values were firm at last week's prices. Extra choice ox sold to 43/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 39/ to 41/; secondary and plain ox, 35/ to 37/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 38/ to 40/; ordinary cow beef, 34/ to 36/; heavy prime steers, £15 7/6 to £16 7/0; lighter prime steers, £13 2/6 to £14 12/6; light prime steers, £11 10/ to £12 12/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £11 7/6 to £12 15/- Heavy prime cows and heifers, £10 5/ to £11; lighter prime cows and heifers, £8 15/ to £9 15/; other killable cows, £6 5/ to £7 15/.
Alfred Bucldancl and Sons, Ltd., report:—To-day at our weekly Westfield fat stock market beef pens contained 264 head (comprising 171 steers and 93 cows and heifers), compared with 284 at last week's market. There was a steady demand throughout, and first quality, light weight and medium cattle were slightly improved in price. Other classes were unchanged. Extra choice ox sold to 43/; choice and prime ox, 3S/ to 42/; secondary and plain ox, 35/ to 37/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 06/ to 40/; ordinary cow beef, 32/ to 35/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £17 15/ to £18 12/G (the latter price for steers from Maungataupcre); heavy prime steers, £15 15/ to £17 12/6; lighter prime steers, £14 to £15 12/G; light prime steers, £12 10/ to £13 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £9 to £12 7/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £11 15/ to £12 17/6; heavy prime cows and heifers, £10 10/ to £11 12/6; lighter prime cows and heifers, £8 to 10 7/6, other killable cows, £5 5/ to £7 17/6.
