WESTPORT, this day

Charles Salter, a married man with a large family, was drowned in the Buller River this morning. With others, he was crossing the river at the Tiroroa railway construction camp, when the boat was capsized. He endeavoured to swim across, but sank before reaching the shore. The police are dragging the river.
