The weather was fine and the going good at Caulfield. Black Duchess (J. O'Brien) covered half a mile on the grass in 50s. Violin Bow did six furlongs in 1.18. Ethelton went half a mile in 50Js, while Perception covered three furlongs in .383. Figure (W. Cook) took 4^ l s to do half a mile. Demost, with assistance, covered nine furlongs in 2.8}. Catkin went seven furlongs in 1.30J, doing the first six in 1.18. Nawallah went ten furlongs in 2.20 J. Galita, assisted over the last six furlongs by Quick Reward, did a mile in 1.494. Paquito and Kidaides have arrived from Sydney. Toper, who is returning to Sydney, will be given a spell. Caramelo is reported to be amiss. W. Cook has been engaged to ride Ethelton in the Caulfield Cup and Demost in the Melbourne Cup.
