JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

Before a surprisingly good attendance, after an interesting game, Grammar Old Boys beat Ponsonby by 18 points to 3, and so won the junior championship. Grammar §liowed improved form, but Ponsonby was disappointing. The first Grammar score came from Lindrum, who cut through the defence and finding Jensen out of position scored near tlie posts and converted. The next score came from a quick heel from the scrum near the Ponsonby line, which enabled Frankham, at half, to dive over, but the angle was too great for Lindrum. Tlie Ponsonby score came from a blind side movement from Conway, which, enabled Derbridge to score at the corner. In the second half, Jordan and Young scored, both converted by Lindrum. Ponsonby looked dangerous several times, but infringements pulled them up. For Grammar, Lindrum was the best back and was well supported by Tapper at full-back and Frankham at half. Bies showed improved form, while Savory played well when he settled down. Neither Lewis nor Garlick had many opportunities on the wings. The Grammar forwards packed and scrummaged excellently and wore the Ponsonby pack down. Pollock and Young showed up and were supported by Forsyth, Jordan and Robinson., Scarborough led his team well and his tackling broke down many Ponsonby movements. The Ponsonby forwards played well, but their backs were disappointing. Gallagher, Somers and Bryson were the most prominent of the forwards, while Conway, Pope and Derbridge played well in the backs. Jensen, at full-back, was inclined to be theatrical and was frequently caught out of position.
