SUNDAY TRAMCARS.
SERVICE TO BE REDUCED.
SAVING OF £4500 PER ANNUM,
To effect an estimated saving of £4594 per annum the Auckland Transport Board has decided to use 17 fewer tramcars and release 34 motormen and conductors on Sundays. The decision is based on the recommendation of the general manager, Mr. A. E. Ford. Of the total saving it is estimated that £2475 will be saved in the wages bill. The manager's proposal provides for a minimum service with additional trips as traffic demands. On the regular Sunday running there will be 149 fewer trips flom suburbs to the city arid 142 fewer from the city outward hound. On the Remuera-Mount Albert run three trams will he withdrawn in the afternoons. To and from Ponsonby four will be taken off. On the Dominion Road routo there will he two less in the forenoons and two less in the afternoons. Onehunga will have three cars less in the mornings. From the Heme Bay-Zoo-Grey Lynn service two cars will be withdrawn in the afternoons. Mount Eden will have one car less in the mornings.
As occasion demands this service will be augmented.
