AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET.

TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.

A WEAKENING MARKET.

BANKS STILL EASE. A good volume of business was put through on the local Exchange yesterday afternoon, but at this morning's call not a single transaction was recorded. The chief feature of the latest trading is the weakness of the bank section. This is reflected in the sales recorded, and the latest quotations. It may be noted that the scrip of every bank on the local list, with the exception of Queensland National, is being offered, in most cases at lower rates than were ruling a few days ago. Similarly insurance shares are being offered more freely. Every line listed is on offer, with a buyer calling for only one, the National. The coal section continues strong, and most other lines outside Australians show little change. The Noon Call. The morning was quiet, and only three sales were recorded at the noon call. These marked a slight rise in Waihis, cind an increase of 6d in National Timber shares. Business tn the South. Of business on the Christchurch Exchange last week, the "Christchurch Times" says:— The markets have not been as active as of late. Price fluctuations have been much larger than usual, and an easing tendency has been noticed throughout. The recorded business has been 9484 shares, against 11,984 the previous week. An analysis of the business gives the following results, with the figures for the preceding week in parentheses: Banks 66Q (970), insurance 500 (200), breweries 180 (3505), loan and agency 1584 (290), meat 1900 (1059), mining 3750 (3400), and coal nil (500). Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and in the case of loans and debentures upon redemption at maturity, works out as follows for the latest sales:— PER CENT PER ANNUM. £ s. d.
