FLAX-GRADING RETURNS.

A substantial increase, both on tb6 figures for August last and on those for the month of September, 1928, is ehown by the returns issued by the Government flax grader for the month ending dayCompared with September, 1928, the increase occurred in all grades of hemp but high fair. A similar improvement took place in the returns of tow graded, the principal increase being in the second quality. In common with recent months no stripper elips were handled in the stores' during the month. The figures for the month are as follows, the returns for September, 1928, being given in parentheses: — " Hemp—Good fair, 181 bales (118); high fair, 231 (291); fair, 325 (276); common, 82 (73); rejected, 36 (23). Total, 855 (781). Tow.—No. 1 40 (54); No. 2, 185 (98); No. 3, 38 (42); condemned, 20 (18). Total, 283 (212). Stripper Slips—No. 2. — (7); No. 3, — (2). Total, — (9).
