MRS. MARIA THOMPSON.

The death occurred at Birkenhead on Thursday, at the age of 84 years, of Mrs. Maria Thompson, widow of the late Mr. William Thompson. She was formerly Miss Maria Stanley, and wae married at Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, and came out in 1871 with her husband to New Zealand in the ehip Countess of Kintore, arriving at Auckland after a passage of 90 clays. They settled at Birkenhead, where Mr. Thompson engaged in fruitgrowing for many years, and celebrated the diamond anniversary of their wedding on December .30, 1927. Her husband died in May of last year: There are some eighty descendants.
