STOLEN PROPERTY.
CHARGES OF RECEIVING. WATERSIDER CONVICTED. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. Tlio tlieft of 51b of butter and a leg of mutton, valued at 12/6, ancl another charge of receiving' three ladies' -singlets, valued at 10/6, knowing i;hem to have been dishonestly obtained, "was preferred against Thomas Joseph Glover, a waterside worker ,at the Police Court this morning. Accused, for whom Mr. F. D. McLiver appeared, denied the theft charge, but admitted receiving the articles mentioned. Chief Detective Hammond said there was no doubt that the butter tod leg of 1 lamb, also the single'ts, were part of cargo pillaged on the Hororata, which sailed from Auckland on Thursday 'for England. The, butter was pillaged aft Auckland, while the leg of mutton had I been cut off a carcase. The singlets "were part of the vessels inward Cargo. 'These goods were found by Detective Sergeant McHugh when he searched/Glover's "house. Glover had previously been in 'trouble, but not for dishonesty. Counsel said Glover bought the singlets from a fireman off the ship in the Ambassadors Hotel. Accused was<a married man with, a sick wife -and two children. Mr. McLiver added "that the case was no worse than another before the Court recently when a man was fined £5 for receiving butter taken from the same ship. Glover would now lose his position on the wharf. That in itself was a serious punishment. Mr. Hunt remanded accused for sentence until Tuesday, when a.report would then be available from the Probation Officer. S
