STEALING SHOES.

LABOURER CAUGHT IN ACT. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. Yesterday two pairs of footwear were stolen from the front of the K.K. Footwear Company's shop in Karangahape Road, Newton. After the first theft was discovered, a- shop assistant was placed on duty outside the shop to keep watch. He was not there long before he saw a man walk up and down past the shop. The man looked around, and when he thought no one was looking stole a pair of brown shoes and walked around the corner behind a church. The assistant followed him and handed him in charge of a constable.

At the Police Court this morning John Ryan, a labourer, aged 30, admitted stealing tho shoes, which were valued at £1 2/6.

Oil the application of Sub-Inspector McCarthy, Ryan was remanded until Monday morning for sentence. In the meantime the police will make further inquiries about him.
