"RED" LEADERS.
TURNING PINK? Maxton Expelled By Communist Party. MOSCOW'S PROMPTING. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 19. The British section of the League Against Imperialism has expelled from membership, its chairman, Mr. James Maxton, M.P., who was also chairman of the Independent Labour party. This is said to be on the ground of his neglect to fight the Labour Government's policy in Egypt and also his support of the Government's measures to crush the Arab revolt in Palestine. Mr. Maxton has replied that he does not intend to be bullied. The dissension in the British Communist party has revealed the demand by a number of branches for the removal of Messrs. Harry Pollitt, Arthur Horner and J. E. Campbell from the political bureau on tho ground of their being members of the right wing.
The demand is apparently instigated from Moscow, which is dissatisfied with the Communists' achievements in Britain and insists on a more intense war against the Socialist Government.
