RAILWAY EXPENSES HIGHER
PROFITS LOWER THIS YEAR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The working expenses of the Railways in the four weeks which ended on August 17 exceeded earnings by £4148, whereas in the corresponding period of last year there was a working profit of £34^032. The cross earnings were £571,787, which is £19,970 more than last year, lnifc working expenses increased by £58,159 to £575,935. The working profits for the 20 weeks of the current'financial year are £69,929 lower than the corresponding total last year and £85,071 less than in 1927.
