NOTES FROM TAKANINI.

RECENT TRACK DOINGS. ■ REFRESHER AND SEA COB PLEASING. Prince Humphrey, Eaglet and Hard Words arrived back at headquarters 011 Saturday morning bearing 110 outward appearance of having felt the southern trip where they raced so consistently. On Saturday morning Sea Cob got a little advantage over Taurua at the end of six furlongs, run in good time, both moving very freely. Le Choucas beat Mithra in a six-fur-long flutter, both pleasing, particularly the former, who relished the task and hit out with plenty of dash.

In the Shade, who was having hi 3 first gallop for some time, was 011 even terms with Vali at the finish of a live-furlong sprint. The Australian Sun gelding appears to be in good nick and when asked to again sport silk should strip well.

Refresher, going well within himself, beat Clopton over six furlongs. The former has been pleasing iu his work since Pakuranga, and can bo relied 011 to make things fairly interesting at Avondale.

Among the two-year-olds that worked last Saturday were Bells of Shandon, the Paper Money Ally, and Thespian lilly, who finished together at the end of a three-furlong sprint. It was a good gallop, the Thespian lilly making a good effort.. Sister White and Waiati Lady undertook rounds of pace work with plenty of dash. High Finance, alone, strode over half a-niiic, displaying some of her old dash. She will again be found in the limelight shortly. Polyxena galloped over a similar task and moved nicely. Like her stable companion Eaglet, there is a big clmneo of her again being found 011 the winning list shortly. The Tippler colt and Treasury were companions in a half-mile sprint run in fair time, the former showing up to best advantage. 011 Tuesday morning Imperial Prince galloped seven furlongs, being assisted over the last five by Serang, who was a length behind the former at the finish. It was run in fair time so that tne eon of Lucullus should run a creditable raco in the Avondale Guineas. Nassock beat Professor over six furlongs. The former is coming on splendidly. Snowplnne had a shade the better of Sister White at the end of four furlongs, run in fair time.

If. Goldfinch will luive a full l>ook of riding to do for .1. T. Jaiuieson, who has a horse in every Hat race.

On Wednesday morning before breakfast Refresher pleased just as well as Eaglet iu a six-furlong journey. The former's effort was exceptionally good.

Prince Humphrey strode over a mile, being assisted over the first half of the journey by Yali, while Taurua was hi? companion over the last half mile. It was not an impressive gallop for the Avondale Cup candidate, and he will have to produce something extra to have a chance 011 the day.

Sea Cob moved nicely with Clopton over a six-furlong flutter.

In the Shade and Le Choucas were responsible for a very fast run five furlongs. The pair finished together.

Mithra and Ti Tree were also companions over a five-furlong journey, and this was a very fast gallop also.

Hard Words and Sight Draft were sent over a sprint down the back straight and hit out very freely. The former, a Diacquenod colt, may run well in the Avondale Stakes, as he was just beaten in the parade at Wanganui, and since his return lias been training on satisfactorily. It may be a bit too soon for the Paper Money filly.

Night Comet (C. Walters) and Principal (G. Jennings) were given a school over the fences 011 Wednesday morning. The former jumped well and the latter, who is by Thespian—Queen of the Earth, gave a promising display for a novice.

j Refresher will not start the first day, but if produced 011 the second day should show up well. King Will onyx went sore a few days ago and there is little chance of hie facing the starter at Avondalc as he has been off the track of late.

Camp Prince is still showing signs of soreness, and has been restricted to trotting exercise until his leg shows an improvement. It has 1 been mending fairly well during the past week, and he should be in active work again shortly. NOTES FROM HASTINGS. On Tuesday morning 'few gallops ot interest took place, the majority of horses indulging in pacework only. Showers overnight had left the course in splendid condition. Bernera reeled off live furlongs in 1.3, moving freely throughout. Ho is looking very well, and should race prominently in his next outings. Auda was given a working gallop over four furlongs. Ho is very well at present, and should not retain his maiden status long this season. Gascony's I.ls for live furlongs 011 the plough is" not often equalled here. The two-year-old Chrysology (Psy-chology—-Desert Gold) finished a couple of lengths in front of Clever at the end of four furlongs, run in 50s 011 the course proper, with the trestles wide out. It was a good gallop for a two-year-old. Delude eet out over four hurdles, but after jumping three very slovenly, baulked at the fourth and was not gone 011 with.

Te Awha is looking an improved horse after his race at Dannevirkc, and should be more ready for his next start.

Kaikatoa (Aransio —Carlatour) is one of the most promising two-year-olds here. He is a powerfully-built gelding and is well forward to start his racing career. He is owned by Mr. H. Tupaea.

The Legionnaire—Bees in Amber colt is being handled by F. Davis, and judging on appearances, he should not take long to mould into shape.

Mr. T. 11. Lowrv lias entered Gasc'ony, Great Charter, Clever and Chrysology for the Auckland spring meeting, but no decision regarding their trip north will bo made until after the llawkc's Bay meeting.

ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. BLACK MAI RE.—You arc on Black Mai re both starts at Wanganui. PAT. —Gay Ballerina's time in the Allaged Stakes at Avondale last season was 1.13 1-5. Air King ran 1.14 3-5 when he won the Chevalier Handicap, six furlongs, at the same meeting. HYDE PARK TRAINS WELL. The latest track efforts executed by Hyde Park have been particularly promising, and if he gallops up to them to-morrow he should be in the firing line at the finish of the Avondale Cup. The Marble Arch gelding has done a capital preparation and has never looked' better, while the going, if it remains in its present state, will also suit him admirably. Hyde Park has previously won over ten furlongs and his condition should enable him to run out the Cup journey in good style to-morrow.
