CITY NIGHT SHELTER.
A GOVERNMENT GRANT. SUM OF £150. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. "lii view of the continued serious position among the unemployed of Auckland, will the Prime Minister say whether he has received any reply to his inquiry from the Auckland Hospital Board in the matter of the Auckland doss-house?" asked Mr. W. E. Parry, Labour member for Auckland Central in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr. Parry said Sir Joseph would remember that joint representations from all parties were made a little while ago in connection with the closing c£ the Eev. Jasper Calder's night-shelter, and the plight of the men who would be turned out into the parks to sleep. The Prime Minister said that a reply had been received only that day, although he had communicated with the Auckland Hospital Board on the day the deputation waited, on him. A grant of £200.had been made by the Government in May and a fuftlier grant of £150 would be made, as it was considered that this sum would be sufficient for the requirements of the season.
