TIKOPIA ISLAND.

PURE POLYNESIAN LIFE,

A lecture 011 Tikopia Island, its people and culture, by Dr. Raymond W. Firth, who has spent two years in this Mela 11esian outpost, was delivered at the Auckland University under the auspices of the anthropoligal section of the Auckland Institute.

Dr. Dirth emphasised that the point of importance in the study of this island was that its people were a pure Polynesian community, having been isolated from their Pacifiv relatives for several centuries. They had therefore preserved without outside influences much tradition and mythology, in addition to customs in primitive forms.
