WHANGAREI HARBOUR.

FINANCIAL TEMENT. WHANGAREI, this clay. Questioned by Harbour Board members to-day, the engineer stated that it was improbable that the contract for the removal of the sandstone bar at Kioreroa would be completed before the end of summer. The dredging in the same ■locality by the Harbour Board would be fi: ished in four months. i With regard to the request of the Taurikura Ratepayers' Association for a new shed at Urquhart's Bay wharf, the engineer reported that the cost would be £50. Two other small wharves adjacent also needed attention. As a metalled road jiow serves the district well, the engineer was instructed to report on the whole question, with the idea of centralisation. To clear up a contention by Mr, J. F. S. Briggs, ma;!j at a Chamber of Commerce meeting, that £32,000 was unaccounted for in connection with the board's loan expenditure, the secretary submitted a full summary of the works and expenditure account of the improvement loan, as recorded by the balancesheet. This showed that at the time the balance-sheet was prepared £12,033 remained out of £120,000. A request by the Chamber of Commerce that the board's chairman give an address on finance was declined.
