MAIN HIGHWAYS GRANT.
GOVERNMENT'S DECISION.
UNITED PROTEST MADE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) '■ WELLINGTON, this day. A meeting of motorists and local body representatives to-day discussed the Government's proposals regarding the main highways funds, and carried a resolution protesting against the withholding of the .annual grant of £200,000 front the Public Works Fund, and £35,000 from the Consolidated Fund, as opposed to the spirit and intention of the Main Highways Act and to the agreement between the motorists and the Government, and because it would curtall the roading programme and interfere with the benefit derived by both local bodies and motorists.
