FOUND IN EMPTY HOUSE.
MAN AND WOMAN ARRESTED. EACH FINED £1. Recently the owner of an unoccupied house at Great North Road complained to the police that persona had heen frequenting the premises. A watch was kept and last night, at 9.30, when a constable entered the large empty dwelling and walked upstairs, he found Mary Sharman (32) and James Lionel Maher (23) in one of the rooms. The two were arrested and appeared at the Police Court this morning, each charged with being found without lawful excuse on enclosed premises. They pleaded guilty. "Nothing is known against either of them, although the woman has been warned by the police about the late hours she has been keeping," said SubInspector McCarthy. "There were numerous used matches and cigarette butts on the floor of the room. This is a source of danger, as the house might have caught fire," added Mr. McCarthy. Sharman and Maher were eaeh fined £1, or three days' imprisonment.
