FAULT IN CABLE.

SUVA-NORFOLK ISLAND SECTION. STILL IN COMMUNICATION. IRIS SAILS TO-MORROW. Owing to a fault near Norfolk Island communication on the section of the Pacific cable between Suva and Norfolk Island is interrupted, and the cable steamer Iris is to leave Auckland at 5.30 a.m. to-morrow to make repairs. As the cable system is duplicate the trouble ie not serious. The cable from Vancouver runs via Fanning Island, Suva and Norfolk Island, and divides at the last-named station, one branch going to Sydney and the other to Auckland. The system is duplicated, however, by another branch cable from Suva to Auckland and from Auckland to Sydney. Cables both for Xew Zealand and for Australia are coming by the direct cable from Suva, and the Australian messages are transmitted from here to Sydney.
