POTATOES DROP FURTHER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHPJSTCHURCH, Tuesday. A further decline of nearly 20/ a ton has occurred in the potato market. The value to-day of September delivery was £7 15/ a ton, f.0.b., s.i. On Friday it was £8 12/6, and a week ago £10. Potatoes for prompt delivery have been sold at £7 5/.a ton. Values to farmers are £6 on trucks, a drop of £2 a ton on a week ago The quantity of potatoes shipped North by the last three boats, the Waipiata, Kawatiri and Wingatui, has driven all parts of the North Island off the market. The total from all ports coinprised 35,586 sacks, and it is possib e that this quantity will suffice Auckland until the commencement of next month. The readiness with which potatoes have come forward raises doubts as to the correctness of the statistical position published recently. More light on this aspect will be provided when the September deliveries are dealt with. The quantity at Lyttelton after the departure of Friday s boats was about 5000-sacks. The North Island is inquiring, and there is a scarcity of spot oats. Chaff is not in much request. It is jvorth £4 5/ to £4 10/ on trucks.
