HARBOURMASTER DEAD.
CAPTAIN" M. McINTYRE,
RESCUED DISABLED STEAMER
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. Capt. M. Mclntyre, who was harbourmaster at Wanganui from June, 1911, to July, 1929, when she retired on six months' leave, is dead.
He traded on the New Zealand coast for many years in the Manaroa and Stormbird. He gave up the command of the Stormbird to take up duties with the Harbour Board. The last "big job he undertook was a year ago, when, in the'tug Kahanui, he stood by the steamer Gale all night after she had stripped her propeller and broke away from the tug Terawliiti while being towed .to Wellington. He showed considerable skill as a seaman in the manner he went inio the breakers, and after great difficulty got a line aboard and rested the Gale when she was in danger of drifting ashore, he then completed the tow to Wellington. A few months later his health broke down, and recently he went to reside on his farm at Manganoho. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
