PROVINCIAL CUP.
KEEN LADIES' GAMES. WHANGAREI AND RANGITAIKI IN FINAL.
There was some excellent play in the Ladies' provincial cup competition yesterday afternoon. In the play-off to decide the winners of the A section, rlangitaiki, the all-Maori side, defeated :he Auckland Collegiate eleven by three to two. In the other semi-final, Whangarei beat Auckland A by two goals to nil. In the Rangitaiki-Auckland Collegiate match, the Maori girls set a fast pace ut the start, and Miss W. Rota found the net. Miss J. Carlaw evened the figures, and there was no alteration at half time. In the second half Collegiate went to the front as a result of a goal ->y Miss Hayes, but further goals by Misses S. Moko and M. Minarapa gave the Maoris a lead which they held to the end. Rangitaiki .. .» Auckland Collegiate 2 Whangarei were a little too strong for Auckland A, whose combination was j)oor. In the first half goals were scored for Whangarei by Mrs. McLeod and Miss Berrick. After the change Auckland put more vim into their work, and although they did not succeed in opening their account their defence remained sound until the end. Whangarei 2 Auckland A 0 The final between Rangitaiki and Whangarei will be decided on Monday.
