HARBOUR BRIDGE.
STREET MEETING HELD.
BORINGS TO BE TAKEN.
"Some of the bridge enthusiasts might have been a little disappointed over the Prime Minister's pronouncement," said Mr. R. H. Greville, president of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association, at an open-air meeting last evening. "An audience of 4000 people applauded the announcement, and those people were not from the North Shore either." In connection with the personnel of the committee of inquiry, he suggested the appointment of the town planner, Mr. J. W. Mawson, an engineer of the Public Works Department, the head of the Department of Marine, and a judge of the Supreme Court. He urged the taking of borings as early as possible. Mr. G. O'Halloran objected to the inclusion of a Public Works engineer as the Department had turned the committee down in the first instance. It was decided to go into the question of borings and to consult the Association's honorary engineers, Messrs. R. Moore and S. Jones.
