TARIFF WAR.
AUSTRALIA ROUSED. Imports From N.Z. Disturbing Primary Producers. QUESTION OF FOOD SUPPLY. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Signs are not wanting, says the "Evening News" in a leaderette, that a tariff war is likely to develop between Australia and New Zealand. The Primary Producers' Union at Grafton declare that during the past four months £32,000 worth of north coast produce has been displaced by imports from New Zealand. Consequently the north coast traders are trying to move the Tariff Board, and it seems a reasonable and an attainable ideal, adds the "News," that Australia should be at least self-supporting as far as food is concerned.
