HOCKEY.

TWO SENIOR GAMES. IMPROVED GROUNDS AND PLAY. DEFAULT BY OTAHUHU. Bright weather conditions favoured the Auckland Hockey Association for the second series of matches of the championship competition. The grounds were much better than last week, but there still remains much room for improvement. The ball would not run true and caused the players much trouble. The general standard of play was higher, but not up to the senior grade. North Shore continued in a winning vein, and left the field four goals to three against St. Luke's. The reds, however, had decidedlv the best of matters in the second half. "Mount Eden entered the winning list with four goals to one, at the expense of Epiphany. Otahuhu defaulted to Somerville. MOUNT EDEN WIN COMFORTABLY. The Mount Eden-Epiphany game opened evenly and until half-time the scoring was confined to one goal by Chaplin for Mount Eden. But in the second half Epiphany were dominated by the opposition, Kelly, Jones and Chaplan adding goals. w r Nicholson put one on for Epiphany. The game ended : Mount Eden | Epiphany 1 WIN FOR SHORE. Sr. Luke's took some time to get. into their stride and failed to register in the opening half, while Rykers put through two goals for Shore. Early in the second half Reid scored for Shore, and after Bay had got one into the net for St. Luke's. Shore s score was put on by Reed.
