CHRYSANTHEMUMS.

FINE AUCKLAND SHOW. NEW VARIETIES EXHIBITED. DISPLAY AT NFWMARKFT. A record display of blooms was to be seen to-dav at the annual chrysanthemum show promoted liv the Aurk'and Horticultural Society. Over 1000 bloom ; are to be seen at the Municipal Hall in Newmarket, and many of them aiv varieties which have not been previously exhibited in New Zealand.

Amongst them were specimens of the thread petal variety, some of which were less than half an inch in diameter, to gorgeous .Japanese blossoms measuring nearly a foot from the outside petals. The anemone-flowered chrysa nt hcinum, of a shade approximating to terra-cotta. but with that deep and intimate colouring of a (lower which defies ordinary description, was seen to perfection it: an exhibit sent bv Mr. A. K. McMahon.

Other varieties of note were "(Joldeii Tresses," a small but beautiful (lower in deep lemon-yellow and a hirsute variety in russet-brown known as the "liairv wonder"—poor designation for a lovely (lower.

The tubular type of chrysanthemum was well represented by an exhibit of

"Silver Pins," a white bloom in which each petal is perfectly formed an.! forms a complete tube.

The main exhibitors are Messrs. (!. B Simpson (Cambridge), A. E. McMahon. W. A. Dale. F. Brrwin. W. A. Cowan. F. Blackford. A. Carsidc. A. R. Abbott and W. Em pen (Auckland).

A display of outstanding merit was that of Sir Edwin Mitcvhelson, president of the society, consisting of dahlias and ferns, tastefullv arranged, and of cacti by Mr. A. -T. Hipwell. Dr. Endlesberger sent a charming display of chrysanthemums* of all varieties.

Despite an unfavourable season the sliow is an Auckland record, alike us regards quality and the number of entries.
