PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
CALL TO REV. NIXON. MISSIONARY MEETINGS PROPOSED. The Auckland Presbytery met yesterday at the Mount Eden Presbyterian Church, the moderator, the Rev. E. R. Harries, presiding. The Revs. D. C. Herron and S. E. Hill presented before the Presbytery a call from Pukerau, iu the Mataura Presbytery, to the Rev. S. Nixon, of Pnkekohe. On behalf of Mr. Nixon's congregation, Messrs. Nicholson and Blair expressed warm appreciation of the minister's work, and intimated that the congregation would place no obstacle in the way of his accepting the call. Following Mr. Nixon's acceptance, the Rev. J. Hubbard was appointed moderator of the vacant charge. Mr. Alan C. Whitelaw, travelling secretary of the Young Men's Bible Class Union, addressed the meeting on the work, among young people. "Direct, not correct," was, he declared, a fundamental principle in the successful training of young church members, and he urged a closer sympathetic understanding between ministers and their Bible class members. On behalf of the Foreign Missions Committee, the Rev. E. R. Harries proposed that each congregation within the Presbytery should hold a meeting in the first week of May to discuss what can be done in mission work, with the prospect of making such meeting an annual one. The congregation should ascertain how they would attain the results expected of them under the budget.
A report from the visitations committee, advising that the old system of visitations should be adhered to, was discussed at some length. The report was referred back to the committee for further discussion, with a request, that the committee should try to improve the present system.
