STREET PREACHING.

ON ONEHUNGA CORNERS

BOROUGH COUNCILLORS DIFFER.

Inspector Wilkinson reported to the Onehunga Borough Council last night that he could find no fault with the street preaching services held in Arthur Street, Onehunga. He could not pay the same compliment to those held at the corner of Queen and Church Streets. The Mayor said he thought the time had come when all street corner religious services should be cut out, and it was for the incoming council to deal with them accordingly. Mr. R. G. Speight asked why these, people should be prevented from preaching the Gospel. He would never vote them out, because he believed in absolute freedom of speech. He moved: "That the preacher in Arthur Street be asked to modulate his voice when speaking." This was seconded by Mr. H. Stoupe. Mr. T. Moor said he would not stop religious meetings in the street. To reform a drunkard was a bigger thing than to feed and clothe him. And that was what the Salvation Army was doing. The resolution was carried.
