ALL MAKING PROFITS.
CITY TRADING DEPARTMENTS.
POSITION IN WELLINGTON.
LIGHT AND POWER CHEAPER
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Addressing a meeting of municipal electors last night, the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. G. A. Troup, said the profits of the municipal trading departments this year were going to be quite equal to those of last year, if they did not exceed them. Not one of them was going to be "too bad" in any way. Electric light and heating charges had been reduced, returning £26,000 to the consumers. The tramways were in an excellent financial position, and had made profits every year, besides putting large sums to four different reserve funds. "Although the valuations may be doubted, the rates will not be doubled," he said. "There may be some small increase* but as chairman of the financial committee I assure you it will be as small as possible."
