NARROW ESCAPE.
Thrilling Story Of Hongkong Hotel Fire. JUMP INTO NET. (United Service.) HONGKONG, March 12. A thrilling story was told to-day by «ii American naval man. Charles Piceioli, who is lying in hospital with serious injuries to his spine as a result of the fire in the King Edward Hotel. The patient said he and a naval friend named Kish were occupying the same room. They were aroused" and found their escape was cut off by the flame?. The two men proceeded on to a verandah on the fourth floor. Ther saw iire-eeeapes but could not reach "them. They remained half an hour on the verandah. The inferno was increasing nnd then they decided to jump through the flames to a net held in the roadwaV below by firemen. First the two men knelt and said a prayer. Then, after shaking hands, they jumped into space. Kish missed the net and was instantly killed. Piceioli leapt and remembered nothing until he found himself in hospital. A special inquiry is to be opened into the cause of the fire.
