PANMURE HOUSE BURNED.
STARTED IX SWITCHBOARD. Something went wrong in the electric switchboard box at a house owned and occupied by Mr. C. V. Clare, on Barrack Hill,. Panmure, yesterday, a lire was started, and the placs was burned down. The maid was cooking a meal when two explosions were heard in the direction of the switchboard. Flames burst out vvhen the door of tha box was opened and Mr. Clare tore down the switchboard, and put the flames out, but the fire had gone through the walls and nothing could save the house Th« Ellerslie brigade came on the scene, but there are no means of fire-fighting- in that district. Mr. Clare, with the assistance of some neighbours, saved some turniture, and a bucket-brigade prevented an outbuilding from catching fire, but very little elss was saved. The house, which was comparatively new and mne-roonied. was insured for £2000 in the Ocean, and the contents were injured lor £1000 in the South Pacific.
FIRE AT WHANGAREI. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A seven-roomed house, a well-known landmark at Bream Tail, occupied bv Mr. Campbell McLennan, was destroyed by fire yesterday. When the owner returned last evening only the ehimnev was standing.
