TO CLEAN METAL.
Anything made of Britannia metal should, be cleaned with the following mixture, as this prevents it from getting dulled: Mix 2oz of whiting with a tablespoonful of sweet oil and a little soft Soap. Then add methylated spirit until the mixture is like a thick cream. Rub the metal with this, leave on for a few minutes, then wipe off and polish with wash-leather. Ornaments of embossed brass should be cleaned with oxalic acid —ioz to A pint, of soft water. Apply with a soft toothbrush, wipe off, and polish with washleather. The acid will remove all verdigris. Bronze ornaments should be dipped in boiling water and then cleaned with flannel dipped in warm suds made from a pure soap (non-soda). Dry quickly, and polish with a soft duster. Japanned Goods, Etc. Japanned ornaments, trays, etc., must be cleaned with'nothing save a little oil. Water would spoil them. Carved wood ornaments should be put iu a paraffin bath and swished round and round till all grime has disappeared. Amber should be rubbed with whiting moistened with water, polished off, and then rubbed over again with a little olive oil. Rub this off with a flannel and the more you rub the greater will be the shine.
