ROBBED A STORE.
BOOTY FOUND IN SCRUB.
ALSO TOOK A MOTOR CAR. TWO YOUNG MEN FOR SENTENCE. Wearing lumber jackets of bright hue, instead of ordinary coats, Jack Warren Montgomery, alias Keith Moncrief (23), a painter, and Percy Alexander Eyes (28), a fireman, appeared in the dock at the Police Court this morning, when they admitted a charge of breaking and entering the store of John Thomas Beck and stealing goods valued at £12 13/, at Ohinewai on January 2(i. They also admitted having converted a motor car, valued at £350, to their own use.
In evidence it was stated that both men were travelling from the south towards Auckland. After the store was robbed Detective Kemp interviewed the accused a't Te Kauwhata, when they denied all knowledge of the affair. Subsequently Detective Kemp discovered the proceeds of the robbery in some scrub at Te Kauwhata, and both men were afterwards sought after. Detective Sergeant McHugh arrtested them several days aftrewards on the waterfront at Auckland.
Both accused made statements admitting their offences. Chief Detective Hammond said they got the motor car belonging to Mr. Drinnan out of the garage, but could not get it to go, so they abandoned it on the roadside.
The accused were each committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on both charges.
