Jußt then there was a queer noise in the hallway down which Squeedee and Dotty had come. Mrs. Chipmunk gathered her children all around her and •tarted for another door leading out of the chamber, when Squeedee caught her ■nd held her back. "No, don't run away," he whispered. *K you do, whoever it is will only find you. Hold your breath, all of you," and before Mrs." Chipmunk knew what was happening she and her babies were turned to stones. Squeedee turned and
touched Dotty just as a long pointed bead bounded into the little Chipmunk room. r
'Well, now," drawled the owner of the head, his sharp black eves taking the whole room in a glance, "I thought that Chipmunk family lived here. I must have made a mistake." and with a disgusted grunt the pointed head disappeared and Squeedee once more touched Dotty and the Chipmunk family, bringing them back to life agai-i. "That's once we foofed Mr. "Weasel" laughed the elfin. "I know he won't bother this house again for some time. Id use the other entrance for a while if I were you, Mrs. Chipmunk. Come, Dotty, we'll sneak out the back door and see if we can find old Weasel," and bidding the Chipmunk family good-bye, Dotty and Squeedee ran out the ba'ck way, but Mr. Weasel was nowhere in eight, so they hurried on across the meadows in search of new adventures.
