SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A most enjoyable evening was speii* at ''Gawthorpe," Sherborne Road, Mount Eden, in the form of a kitchen evening, given by Nurse Helen Scott in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Vivian Bowring. During the evening music, competitions and games were indulged in.

To celebrate the twenty-first birthday of her daughter (Miss Iris Hartley), Mrs. M. B. Ward gave a very enjoyable party at her residence, The Drive, Epsom, on Thursday evening last. Musical items were rendered by Mrs. Hartley, Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Boulton, and Miss D. Roscoe. Dancing was thoroughly enjoyed by all present, among whom were: Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Phillips-, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Boulton, Mr,s. Woods, Mrs. Elder, Mrs. Keyes, Miss Roscoe, Miss Mobberley, Miss Woods, Miss Herbert, Miss I. Imrie and Miss M. Imrie.

A merry surprise party was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Yargusch on Thursday night in honour of the birthday of Miss Maud Taylor. Games and dancing were indulged in during the evening, the. surprise packet competition being won by Mr. Charlie Raines. Among those present were: Mesdame* ,1. Cor" bett, F. Green, J. Bradley, 11. Yargusch, A. Hannigan, R. Cox, C. Catton, H. Johnston, C. Raines, T. Yargusch, P. Mallory, M. O'Sullivan, N. Bowan, Misses P. and G. Dore. I. Smith, C, and M. Power, M. Taylor, D. and K. Cook, E. O'Neil, M. Yargusch, D. Owens and R. Taylor *** * '

Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Cucksev gave a great deal of pleasure to a number of children at the hospital on Thursday afternoon, when they arranged an enjoyable afternoon tea and " entertainment. They were assisted by Mrs. Robinson, the energetic and ever-willing hospital worker. During the afternoon songs were sung by Miss Kelly, Miss Farm, and Miss Dinnis danced, pianoforte solos were given by Mrs. Brassev, and Mr. Kindley and his daughter dolighted the little ones in a Punch and Judy show. .Miss Kindley also gave an exhibition of ventriloquism. Burnnand's Band supplied music.
