WET MAILS LANDED.

CORRESPONDENCE FROM

ENGLAND.

STORMS IX ATLANTIC.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

When the mails were landed from the R.M.s. Makura yesterday a considerable quantity of letters and newspapers from England were found to be wet. In several cases the addresses on the mail matter were not decipherable.

A quantity of letters and newspapers was reconditioned to-day for delivery. The mails were for Wellington and other places in the Dominion. It is believed the mails became wet while crossing the Atlantic to New York during a period of heavy storms, when large quantities of water were shipped by even the largest liners.
