TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

SEASON'S FIXTURES.

(By ORION.)

February 16—Wellington T.C. February I'3—Kaikoura T.C Annual February L'S, Otahuhu T.C. February 27, :>S—lnvercKrgill T.C March I—Marl bo rough T.C. Annual. March 2—Walkato T.C. March "J —Timaru T.C. March 13—Wyndham T.C. March KS—Manawatu T.C. March 10—New Brighton T C March i>3—Thames T.C. March 30—Takaka T.C. March 30, April I—Hawera T.C. March 30, April 3—N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. April C—Taranaki T.C. Acceptances for the first day of the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting close on Friday next. Red Star is being kept going at Epsom. The bay gelding is getting on in years, and the chances are he will be going back instead of improving. Reremai, off the front of the 4.40 two miles on Saturday week, looks a likely one. The bay mare was very unlucky at Christmas, and her turn is not far oif now. When the season opened, big things were expected of the Worthy Bond filly Trustworthy, but so far the chestnut mare has failed to deliver the goods. She is engaged at the Otahuhu meeting, but would have to improve on her form this season to win a stake. J. Shaw has been slipping plenty of work into Great Change, but the bay gelding, although possessing plenty of speed, ie not as solid in a race as could be desired. Mr. Goosman has let him out a second since he was last handicapped, but Great Change was entitled to a 4.40 mark. Van Rich seems nicely placed on 4.39 in the Mount Albert Handicap, and if G. Robertson could land his little bay pacer at the post in his best form he would get in the money. However, Van Rich is more or less unsound, and it is no easy matter to keep him on his legs. Great Way has been kent going during the past few weeks. The three-year-old son of Peterwah is a real good trotter for his age, but so far he has not produced in a race anything like what he can do on the track. If he would only decide to. trot all the way, he would be the best of good things for the Trial Trot on Saturday week, but he has proved so erratic in his efforts so far this season that hackers will be chary of risking much on him. It is a long time since H. Kinnamont had any luck, but Great Way has only to go right to break the sequence of outs.

THE OTAHUHU CUP.

The appearance of the handicaps for the Otahuhu Trotting Club's summer meeting brings that gathering a stage nearer, and no doubt Mr. C. Goosman's work will be well perused by trotting enthusiasts. Of the 18 entered for the Otahuhu Cup five have been placed on the front. They are not a brilliant lot of two milers, and Harvest Child and Jean McElwyn look the best of them. Only Dundas Boy and Glideaway are on 12yds, and though Dundas Boy has been racing well Glideaway should beat him. Audacious (24yds) has not raced well of late, but at his best is good over any distance, and if O. E. Hooper lands him at the post at his best on Saturday week he should be hard to dispose of. On 36yde (3.29) are Silk Thread. Native Prince, Dillon Huon, Loch Moigh, The Shrew and The Abbey. They are a useful lot, and the best of them may be Loch Moigh, that is if he is all right. He is unsound and frequently is lame. Machine Gun, who has been consistently handicapped on 4.27, has been let out a eeeond by Mr. Goosman, but even so it is unlikely backers will select him as one of the favourites. Logan Park and Padlock ((50yds) have been set severe tasks, although they are handicapped about right. Ahuriri (108 yds) is a long way back, and to win would have to put irp a wonderful performance. As no less than 12 of the 18 engaged hail from outside the Auckland province, it will be well to await the acceptances on Friday. Then some idea as to the strength of the field likely to line up will be gathered.
